Every commission starts with a conversation. I listen to what you need, research what actually belongs inside the design, and draw something from scratch that could only exist for your story.
I've made custom scarves for a cathedral museum in the Dominican Republic, for an Indian-American wedding where the design had to carry two families without being literal about either, and for private collectors who wanted something no brand had ever made. Each one started the same way: someone had a story worth wearing, and I figured out how to put it on silk.
A commission from Mali is an original illustration, made from nothing, for your specific brief. Not a template. Not an existing design adapted to your colors. Something that didn't exist before you asked for it.
Commissions start at $1,800 for weddings and events. Starting from $2,500 for institutions and brands.
How a commission works
First, we talk
We talk for 20-30 minutes. You tell me about your event, your institution, or your story. I ask questions. We figure out if we're a good fit.
Then I build the brief
I put together a written brief and a visual moodboard based on what we discussed. You approve it or we adjust. This becomes the foundation of the design.
I draw it by hand
I draw the illustration by hand. You receive the first design proposal with color palette options.
You approve every stage
We refine until the design is exactly right. Nothing moves to production until you sign off in writing.
A physical sample first
Your scarf is produced as a single sample. I review it for color accuracy and quality before it ships to you.
You hold it before we run
You receive the physical sample and approve it. This is your final check before full production.
Then the full order
Full production runs. Your scarves arrive ready to gift, sell, or wear.
The full process takes 14 to 15 weeks from our first call to delivery. If you have a specific date in mind, tell me on the discovery call and we'll plan from there.
